NowAerial spraying against the dengue mosquito scheduled at 7 p.m. on Oct. 20 and Oct. 24, 2026.

Orange County Mosquito Control's schedule, last updated Oct. 19, 2026, says "Spraying is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, and Saturday, October 24," over parts of Apopka and Pine Hills.

What changed

  • The county is spraying from the air against the dengue mosquito. Its press release, which its page data dates Oct. 12, 2026, announced aerial spraying "to reduce the mosquito population responsible for transmitting Dengue Fever."
  • The reason is local cases. The county's notice says that as of Oct. 12 the Florida Department of Health had confirmed "four locally transmitted cases of dengue fever in the Apopka area and one in Pine Hills."
  • The state's own count agrees. The Department of Health's weekly report counts 5 locally acquired dengue cases in Orange County in 2026, among 368 in Florida. The same report lists Orange County under a mosquito-borne illness alert.

When

  • Next flights: 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, and Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026.
  • Earlier schedule: the notice's Oct. 16 update put spraying at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, with treatments possibly postponed to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 because of thunderstorms. No source read says whether those treatments took place.
  • How long: the county's mosquito control manager said in the press release, "We are planning to aerial spray over the next two to three weeks."
  • Notice: the county says it "will notify residents at least 48 hours before aerial spraying begins," through its social media, the Mosquito Control website and OC Alert.

Where

  • Apopka: "portions of central and south Apopka," including neighborhoods near U.S. Highway 441, Main Street and Park Avenue, South Apopka and Clarcona, Paradise Heights, and areas north of Lake Apopka. The notice says "Apopka High School will not be in the treatment area."
  • Pine Hills: residential neighborhoods near West Colonial Drive and North Pine Hills Road, areas near West Washington Street, and the Bel-Aire Woods and Orlo Vista communities.

What it means if you live here

  • You may see low-flying planes. The notice says residents "may see aircraft flying at low altitudes and making turns while carrying out the treatments."
  • Nothing extra for pets or gardens. "County officials say residents do not need to take additional precautions to protect pets, livestock, or gardens."
  • Check the newsroom notice for the schedule. The county's Arbovirus Monitoring page, read on October 20, 2026, still showed only the October 16 schedule, while the newsroom notice carried the October 20 and October 24 flights.
