Waymo announced on Oct. 27, 2026 that it is growing its driverless-taxi service area in Orlando. In its own words: "Over in Orlando, we're nearly doubling our coverage area in the east, including enhanced service downtown."
What changed
- Waymo's announcement. "Over the next week, we're scaling in five cities and adding nearly 250 square miles of territory across Los Angeles, Nashville, Orlando, San Diego and the San Francisco Bay Area." The 250 square miles is the five-city total, and Waymo's post gives no square-mile figure for Orlando.
- The Orlando figures come from Bungalower. Bungalower reports that Waymo is "adding 53 square miles to its Orlando service area, bringing its total coverage to 120 square miles". Waymo's post does not state those numbers.
- Downtown places named. Bungalower reports: "The expansion pushes farther east and adds more downtown coverage, including City Hall, the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, and the Orlando Science Center".
- Another report. Electrek, reading the same announcement on Oct. 27, wrote of Orlando: "Coverage on the east side nearly doubles, and there's more service downtown."
When
- Announced: Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2026.
- Rolling out: "over the next week", in Waymo's words. Electrek puts it the same way. No source gives a day-by-day schedule for Orlando, so a given street may not be in the area yet.
Where
- East and downtown. Waymo says the growth is "in the east, including enhanced service downtown". The places Bungalower names are City Hall, the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts and the Orlando Science Center.
- The exact new edge is in the Waymo app and its maps. Waymo's post says: "Check out where you can explore in the Waymo app or our updated service area maps".
Before this
- Launch. Waymo welcomed its first public riders in Orlando on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2026, Spectrum News 13 reported. The area ran "from just north of downtown Orlando nearly all the way to Walt Disney World", and Spectrum News 13 reported that it "covers 60 square miles".
- Open to everyone. Bungalower: "The company opened rides to everyone in April". ClickOrlando reported it on Apr. 15, 2026.
What it means if you live here
- Both ends of a ride must be inside the area. Bungalower reports that anyone can hail a Waymo in its app, "provided their pickup and destination are within the service area".
- Check the app before you plan on it. The new area is rolling out over the week from Oct. 27, and the Waymo app and its updated maps show where you can ride.
