Verdict: DELIVERED LATE (by 393 days). On October 29, 2024, Blue Man Group announced that its new theater at ICON Park would open on April 3, 2025 [C1, C2, C3]. It did not open that day [C7, C9]. In April 2025 two other dates were on record: FOX 35 reported that "show dates have been moved to early May 2025, according to the website" [C9], and in a statement WKMG printed, the group said construction delays had "pushed the grand opening date to later this year" [C7]. No opening in 2025 is on record. On January 8, 2026 its owner set the opening for May 1, 2026 [C11], and WFTV reported that the show "debuted on Friday", May 1, 2026 [C14]. That is 393 days after the announced date.

The promise. A new theater at ICON Park, opening with ticketed shows on April 3, 2025, with tickets on sale from the day of the announcement [C1, C2].
The date moved more than once. In April 2025 FOX 35 reported show dates moved to early May 2025, "according to the website" [C9]; the group's statement to WKMG said only "later this year" [C7]. The two were in force in the same weeks of April 2025 [C7, C9]. In January 2026 the owner set May 1, 2026 [C11].
At the last check. Blue Man Group's own website sells tickets for the Orlando show and names the venue: "Blue Man Theater at ICON Park, 8390 Universal Blvd." [C15]
How firm this is. Blue Man Group's own 2024 release could not be read, so the promise rests on local news reports of it. The opening day rests on one outlet. Both are set out in the last section.

The promise

Blue Man Group is "owned and operated by Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group" [C12]. On October 29, 2024, it announced the opening date [C2, C3] and put out a release titled "Grand Opening in Orlando Set for April 3, 2025, Ticket Sales Launch Today" [C1]. That release could not be read: Business Wire refused the request and the web archive was rate-limited, so only its title is on record [C1].

The same day, two local outlets reported the announcement:

Spectrum News 13: "The new theater and residency show will open on April 3, 2025." [C3]
WKMG (ClickOrlando): Blue Man Group announced the theater "will start welcoming guests to shows on April 3, 2025, and tickets are now available for purchase." [C2]
Where: "The theater will be at ICON Park's Universal Boulevard entrance in front of the Orlando Eye." [C5]

These are the outlets' own sentences about the announcement. Neither article quotes anyone by name [C2, C3].

Timeline

September 2024. Orange County leaders broke ground on the theater [C6].
October 29, 2024. The announcement of an April 3, 2025 opening, with tickets on sale that day [C1, C2, C3, C4].
December 2024. Orange County's spokesperson said in April 2025 that the project was approved this month and that it had "received permits for site work on the property" [C10].
April 2025 (WKMG article published April 1, updated April 16, 2025). WKMG printed a statement it received from Blue Man Group: "Originally set to open this Spring, the Blue Man Group Theater has experienced several unexpected construction delays that have ultimately pushed the grand opening date to later this year." [C7] The same version of the article says its aerial footage from early April "showed a dirt plot", and that guests who were affected "have been contacted directly for refunds" [C8].
April 2025 (FOX 35 story published April 2, updated April 3, 2025). FOX 35 reported the delay. The version read says "show dates have been moved to early May 2025, according to the website", and that the spokesperson for Blue Man Group "was unable to provide details on what caused the delays or provide an update on a potential grand opening timeframe" [C9]. The county's spokesperson told FOX 35 that "the vertical construction permit for the theater remains under review" [C10].
Rest of 2025. No Blue Man Group statement on the opening between April 2025 and January 2026 was found, and no record of an opening in either early May 2025 or later in 2025 [C11, C13].
January 8, 2026. Blue Man Group's owner issued a release headed "BLUE MAN GROUP RETURNS TO ORLANDO WITH NEW HOME AT ICON PARK, MAY 1, 2026". It says "The live show, set to open on May 1, 2026" and that tickets would go on sale "Jan. 16 at 10 a.m. ET" [C11]. WKMG reported the date under the words "After multiple delays" [C13].
May 1, 2026. WFTV, at 4:35 p.m. Eastern: "Blue Man Group has officially returned to Central Florida with a brand-new resident show now open at ICON Park." The production "debuted on Friday, inside the newly built Blue Man Theater" [C14]. May 1, 2026 was a Friday.
At the last check. Blue Man Group's website sells Orlando tickets [C15].

Days late: from April 3, 2025 to May 1, 2026 is 393 days: 365 days to April 3, 2026, plus 28 to May 1.

What changed, and why, in the record's own words

The group's reason, April 2025: "several unexpected construction delays" [C7]. In FOX 35's story its spokesperson said of building the group's first theater from the ground up: "Unfortunately, that comes with occasional challenges." [C9] The spokesperson gave no more detail on the cause [C9].
The April 2025 dates: FOX 35 reported the website's show dates as "early May 2025" [C9]. The group's statement to WKMG gave no date, only "later this year" [C7]. The spokesperson for Blue Man Group gave no "update on a potential grand opening timeframe" [C9].
The county's position, as FOX 35 printed it (story published April 2, updated April 3, 2025): the vertical construction permit "remains under review" [C10]. No source read says that the permit review caused the delay.
The January 2026 release does not mention the earlier opening date, the delay or refunds [C11].
The press's description, January 2026: "After multiple delays" [C13].

What it cost

No source read gives a construction cost, a lease value or an amount of public money for the theater.

What this entry did not check

The promise's own text. Business Wire's release was not read, only its title [C1].
The county's permit record. The permit history for 8390 Universal Blvd. and the date a certificate of occupancy was issued were not read. The county's side rests on its spokesperson as FOX 35 printed it [C10].
The opening night. The opening day rests on WFTV [C14]. No release about it from Blue Man Group's owner was found, and ICON Park's website could not be read.
The seat count. Reports give 500 and 578, sometimes in the same article [C2, C3], and this entry gives none.
The website's early May 2025 dates. FOX 35's sentence says "according to the website" and gives no address for it. I did not see that page as it stood in April 2025 [C9].
The 2024 tickets. No source read says whether tickets sold in 2024 carried over to the 2026 show. WKMG reported in April 2025 that guests who were affected were contacted for refunds [C8], and the 2026 tickets were announced to go on sale "Jan. 16 at 10 a.m. ET" [C11].
