The Roadmap Reckoner · Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital, Rinehart Road, Lake Mary (Seminole County), Florida · last checked 2026-10-29
| Verdict | DELIVERED LATE (about 12 to 15 months after the date WFTV reported) |
| Promiser | Orlando Health (the "officials" at its November 2021 groundbreaking, as reported by WFTV) |
| Place | Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital, Rinehart Road, Lake Mary (Seminole County), Florida |
| Promised | "Officials said they expect to open the new hospital in late 2023" (WFTV, Nov. 9, 2021; the officials are not named, and Orlando Health's own release of that day said only "Construction of the facility will be complete in late spring 2024") |
| Delivered / status | Opened Jan. 11, 2025 ("officially opened its doors Saturday, January 11, 2025", Orlando Health), with 124 beds, not the 180 first announced, in a 455,000-square-foot building (320,000 announced); the NICU is still "future" on Orlando Health's page of June 9, 2026 |

Verdict: DELIVERED LATE (about 12 to 15 months after the date WFTV reported), with fewer beds at opening than first announced (124, not 180) in a larger building (455,000 square feet, not 320,000). At the November 9, 2021 groundbreaking, WFTV reported: "Officials said they expect to open the new hospital in late 2023." [C1, C2] Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital "officially opened its doors Saturday, January 11, 2025." [C19] Orlando Health's own release of the same day gave a different date, for the end of construction, and no opening date [C3, C7].
Last checked: October 29, 2026.
- Who said "late 2023". WFTV, a TV station, attributes it to "officials" and names no one [C1]. No Orlando Health page or release read says "late 2023", so this entry does not say Orlando Health promised it. The only source for that date is the news report.
- How late. Counted from the date as written, "late 2023" to January 11, 2025 is about 12 to 15 months, because "late 2023" names no month: 12.4 months counted from the last day of 2023 and 15.4 months counted from the first day of October 2023 [C1, C19].
- Against Orlando Health's own dates, it was closer. The 2021 release said "Construction of the facility will be complete in late spring 2024." [C7] The hospital page later said it "will open in early fall of 2024." [C11] Later still, "will open in early 2025" [C13] and "expected to open in January 2025" [C15]. The opening came on the last of those dates [C19].
- Fewer beds, larger building. The 2021 release said 180 beds [C4]. The hospital opened with 124 [C20]. The 2021 release said 320,000 square feet [C5]; the hospital is 455,000 [C20, C23]. The room to grow to 240 beds stayed in every version [C4, C12, C20].
- Still future: the NICU. In 2021 it was "a future neonatal intensive care unit" [C6]. Orlando Health's page, captured June 9, 2026, still says "alongside a future NICU" [C21].
The promise
WFTV's story of November 9, 2021 [C2] reports the date: "Officials said they expect to open the new hospital in late 2023." [C1] It describes two six-story towers for 180 beds, and a hospital of 320,000 square feet [C1].
Orlando Health's release, dated "Lake Mary, FL (November 9, 2021)" [C3], says: "It will have 180 beds housed in two six-story towers with the ability to expand up to 240 beds." [C4] It says: "At 320,000 square feet, Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital will be a comprehensive acute care facility." [C5] Its one schedule sentence is: "Construction of the facility will be complete in late spring 2024." [C7] The construction manager's post, headed "Brasfield & Gorrie begins construction on Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital November 22, 2021" [C8], carries the same sentence [C9]. The page's own metadata declares an edit after 2021, so its wording is dated to the version read, not to November 2021. The release gives no opening date, and it does not say "late 2023" [C3, C7].
Timeline
- November 9, 2021. Groundbreaking. WFTV reports "late 2023" from unnamed officials [C1, C2]. Orlando Health's release says construction will be complete in "late spring 2024" [C7].
- March 3, 2022. The Lake Mary City Commission approved 5-0 Brasfield & Gorrie's request to pour concrete before 7 a.m. for Orlando Health [C25].
- December 1, 2022. City Commission minutes: the city's finance report put higher permit revenue down to Orlando Health "paying building permits in excess of over a million dollars in the first month of the fiscal year" [C26].
- By March 27, 2023. Orlando Health's hospital page, in the copy captured that day, still carried the 2021 text: 180 beds and "late spring 2024" [C10].
- By September 30, 2023. The page now says the hospital "will open in early fall of 2024." [C11] It says: "It will have 124 beds housed in one six-story tower and one five-story tower with the ability to expand up to 240 beds." [C12]
- By February 29, 2024. The page says the hospital "will open in early 2025", with the 124 beds in the six-story tower and room to expand in the five-story tower [C13].
- June 14, 2024. Orlando Health's release on a first look for Lake Mary's elected officials [C14] says: "Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital is expected to open in January 2025." [C15] It adds that "Phase 1 will open with 124 beds with future space to accommodate up to 240 beds total." [C16]
- July 18, 2024. City Commission minutes record a commissioner's remarks on the hard-hat tour and its "upcoming grand opening", with no date given [C27].
- By December 18, 2024. The page still says early 2025 and 124 beds [C17].
- January 11, 2025. The hospital opens [C19]. Orlando Health's release of July 8, 2025 [C18] confirms the date.
- By June 9, 2026. Orlando Health's facility page says: "Opening with 124 beds, the 455,000 square foot hospital will be able to expand to up to 240 beds." [C20] It lists "16 ICU beds" [C22] and "alongside a future NICU" [C21].
What changed, and why, in the record's own words
- The schedule. The dates moved in this order on Orlando Health's own pages: construction complete in late spring 2024 [C7, C10], then opening in early fall of 2024 [C11], then early 2025 [C13], then January 2025 [C15], then the opening on January 11, 2025 [C19]. The records read give no reason for any of these moves.
- Beds. 180 beds in 2021 [C4] became 124 beds on Orlando Health's page as captured on September 30, 2023 [C12], a cut of 56 beds, or 31%. The hospital opened with 124 [C20]. The records read give no reason for the cut.
- Towers. Two six-story towers [C4] became one six-story and one five-story tower [C12]. Orlando Health's page puts the 124 beds in the six-story tower and the room to expand in the five-story one [C13].
- Size. 320,000 square feet in 2021 [C5] became 455,000 square feet at opening [C20, C23]. That is larger, not smaller. The records read give no reason for the change.
- The NICU. It was "a future neonatal intensive care unit" in 2021 [C6] and is "a future NICU" on the page captured in June 2026 [C21]. No date for it, or for the beds beyond 124, appears in the records read.
What it cost
No primary record read gives a project cost. The one dollar figure found is the city finance report's note that Orlando Health paid building permits "in excess of over a million dollars in the first month of the fiscal year" [C26]. That is a permit payment, not the cost of the hospital.
What this entry did not check
- Orlando Health's live website. orlandohealth.com answered with a security checkpoint (HTTP 429), and the trace did not try to get past it. Every Orlando Health page quoted here was read through an Internet Archive copy, with its capture date in the source.
- The state licence. The licensed bed count today and the licence date were not established.
- Why the dates and beds changed. No Orlando Health statement of the reasons was found.
- Lake Mary City Commission minutes. The text of 97 sets of minutes was searched. Thirteen of them have 119 pages with no readable text; those pages were read once with a machine OCR tool. No page of the minutes, text or image, gives an opening date, a reason or a cost. The one mention of the hospital on those pages is a commissioner who "thanked Orlando Health for the tour of the facility", with no date, bed count or cost [C28]. That OCR read was not repeated, and 27 near-empty or unreadable pages were looked at by eye, not read as text.
- Planning and Zoning Board records were not read.
