Verdict: DELIVERED LATE (between five and six months after 2025 ended), and not yet in full. At its February 15, 2024 groundbreaking [C21], Acadia Healthcare said the new hospital in Apopka was "slated to open in 2025" [C17]. Acadia's own results release, dated July 28, 2026, says: "In June, the Company opened a 144-bed joint venture facility with Orlando Health in Florida" [C25]. The hospital's website today marks two of the four age groups the announcement named [C19] as "coming soon" [C28].
Last checked: October 28, 2026.
- The promise. A 144-bed behavioral health hospital in Apopka, "slated to open in 2025" [C17, C18]. Orlando Health's own release the same day was narrower: "Slated to open in Spring 2025" [C20, C21].
- How late. June 2026 is between five and six months after the end of 2025, and about a year after spring 2025. Acadia's release says "June" and no day [C25]; the exact day was not found.
- What was not delivered yet. The announcement said the hospital "will provide inpatient and intensive outpatient treatment for children, adolescents, adults, and senior adults" [C19]. The hospital's site says "Children & Adolescents - coming soon!" and "Senior Adults - coming soon!" [C28]. It does not put "coming soon" on adults. No date for the other two groups is given there [C28].
- How firm this is. The opening month rests on Acadia's own SEC filings [C25, C26]. The promise rests on two releases [C17, C20]. What was not checked is in the last section.
The promise
On February 15, 2024, Acadia Healthcare and Orlando Health held a groundbreaking ceremony [C21]. Acadia's post says: "Acadia and Orlando Health held a groundbreaking ceremony February 15 for a new 144-bed behavioral health hospital in Apopka, Florida." [C18] It adds: "The state-of-the-art hospital is slated to open in 2025" [C17].
Orlando Health's release, which carries the dateline "APOPKA, Fla. (February 15, 2024)" [C21], says the hospital is "Slated to open in Spring 2025" [C20]. It names Berglund Construction as general contractor and Stengel Hill Architecture as architect [C22].
Timeline
- December 1, 2021. Acadia announced a joint venture with Orlando Health, under which Acadia "will assume management responsibilities for the behavioral health program at Orlando Health South Seminole Hospital" [C1, C2, C3]. That release names no new hospital.
- March 3, 2023. The plan's architectural sheets are dated this day [C10].
- July 11, 2023. The Apopka Planning Commission voted 3-1 to recommend approval of the plan [C9]. The City staff report describes a two-story building with 99,497 square feet and a 144-bed behavioral health hospital on about 10.3 acres [C8]. The one vote against asked for more accessible parking spaces [C14].
- September 6, 2023. Apopka City Council approved the plan: "Motion carried unanimously" [C12, C13].
- Undated (archived May 26, 2024). An Orlando Health post about the site plan says: "The two-story, 100,000-square-foot hospital will include 144 beds" [C5]. It also says: "Construction of the new hospital is expected to be complete in late 2024" [C6]. The page carries no date; the earliest archived copy found is May 26, 2024.
- February 15, 2024. Groundbreaking and the promise [C17, C18, C20, C21].
- May 1, 2024. Acadia's first-quarter 2024 results release, filed that day, reports "holding ground-breaking ceremonies in Apopka, Florida, in partnership with Orlando Health" [C24]. It restates no opening date [C24].
- June 2026. Acadia's second-quarter 2026 release says it opened the 144-bed facility [C25]. Its quarterly report for the period ended June 30, 2026 lists the venture among those "opened during the six months ended June 30, 2026", spelling the partner "Orlando Heath" [C26].
- At the last check. The hospital's website says "144 beds across six distinct units" [C27] and marks Children & Adolescents and Senior Adults "coming soon" [C28]. Its admissions page says it takes people "with a member of law enforcement as part of the Baker Act" [C29].
What changed, and why, in the record's own words
- No revised date appears in the filings read. Acadia's two later releases read [C24, C25] and its quarterly report [C26] do not state a delay or a new date. The 2025 date passed and the opening came in June 2026 [C25].
- The earlier target was earlier still. The undated Orlando Health site-plan post said completion "late 2024" [C6]; the groundbreaking releases said 2025 and "Spring 2025" [C17, C20].
- No reason for the later opening was found. Nothing read says why the opening came after 2025.
- Scope. The 144 beds held [C17, C27]. The 2025 promise named four age groups [C19]; the site today marks two of them "coming soon" [C28].
What it cost
No cost figure was found in the releases, Acadia's filings or the City of Apopka documents read [C20, C24, C25, C8].
What this entry did not check
- The opening day. Acadia's release says "June" [C25]; no day was found, so the lateness is given as a range.
- Orlando Health's own account of the opening. No Orlando Health release about the opening was read. orlandohealth.com returned HTTP 429 during the trace, and Orlando Health's 2024 pages were read through the Internet Archive.
- The state licence and the building's certificate of occupancy. Neither was found.
- The South Seminole move. Orlando Health said that once the hospital "is fully operational" it will transfer its inpatient behavioral health services from South Seminole [C23]. Whether it has was not checked.
- The 184 Apopka meeting files were searched as text only; a scanned page among them could mention the hospital without the search seeing it.
