Verdict: PENDING, ON TRACK. On August 11, 2024, Disney wrote that "Construction on the land is set to begin this fall and will open in 2027" [C1]. Disney Parks Blog's update on the land of April 30, 2026 says "When it opens in 2027", and the version online at this entry's last check still says so [C7, C8]. The Disney Experiences site still said "Set to open in 2027" at this entry's last check [C15]. 2027 has not arrived. No Disney source read names a later year, and none withdraws 2027 [the trace's negative controls]. One Disney page has changed: the Walt Disney World events calendar said "in 2027" in June 2026 [C10], and its item for the land now gives no year [C13].
Disney calls Tropical Americas "a new land coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom" [C15]. Its 2024 post put the work on "this new 11-acre section of the park" [C2]. The Walt Disney World calendar page now names the land's two rides, "Antonio's Fiesta de Encanto" and "Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent" [C14].
Last checked: October 8, 2026. Disney Experiences, the Walt Disney World calendar, and Disney Parks Blog's DinoLand post and update on the land were re-read that day (recheck_20261008.out.txt).
About the dates of edits: Disney Parks Blog prints only the day a post was first published. When this entry says a post was edited on a day, or gives the day of its last edit, that day is the one the page itself records in its page data (its dateModified). Two posts cited here have been edited since they were first published. This entry quotes the version it read and gives that version's date.
- The promise. The land "will open in 2027", with construction "set to begin this fall" [C1].
- The work. Disney's post of March 6, 2025 said that construction "is currently ongoing" [C3, C5].
- DinoLand U.S.A. The same post, as edited in September 2025, said: "DinoLand U.S.A. will permanently close on February 2, 2026." [C16, C4]
- The date, as Disney gives it now.
- Disney Experiences says "Set to open in 2027" [C15]. Disney Parks Blog's update of April 30, 2026 gives the same year [C7, C8, C9].
- The Walt Disney World calendar no longer gives a year [C13].
- Disney Parks Blog's two posts from D23 2026 gave ride details and no opening year [C11, C12; the trace's negative controls].
- The cost. No source read gives one.
The promise
Disney Parks Blog, "Indiana Jones and 'Encanto' Confirmed for Animal Kingdom", published August 11, 2024 [C1, C2]:
"As Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D'Amaro explained during Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, work on this new 11-acre section of the park is set to begin later this year." [C2]
"Construction on the land is set to begin this fall and will open in 2027 — but don't worry, you'll still have plenty of time to experience Dinosaur again (and get that dino)." [C1]
Timeline
- August 11, 2024. Disney Parks Blog announced the land and its year: it "will open in 2027" [C1, C2].
- January 12, 2025. The last day of three places, as Disney's post of March 6, 2025 reports [C3, C6m]:
- "To accommodate construction, the first wave of closures happened earlier this year, with TriceraTop Spin, the Fossil Fun Games, and Chester & Hester's Dinosaur Treasures running their last day of operations on January 12, 2025." [C6m]
- March 6, 2025. Disney Parks Blog's post "DinoLand Is Closing: Here's What to Catch Before it Goes Extinct" said: "Construction on the land is currently ongoing and Tropical Americas will open in 2027." [C3, C3a, C5]
- Disney has edited this post since [C16, C17]. This entry quotes each version for what it said, and dates each sentence to the first version read that has it.
- September 2025. The post, as edited that month, gives a closing date: "DinoLand U.S.A. will permanently close on February 2, 2026." [C16, C4] The edit date is the one its page data records (
dateModified 2025-09-02T15:00:29+00:00), and an archived copy from the same day carries it.
- The post's archived copies from March and July 2025 do not have that sentence [the trace's negative controls].
- The same version lists four places as closed: "To accommodate construction, TriceraTop Spin, the Fossil Fun Games, Chester & Hester's Dinosaur Treasures and The Boneyard are closed." [C6s]
- October 2025. The post's latest edit, by the date its page data records (
dateModified 2025-10-28T20:00:39+00:00), is the version online at this entry's last check. It lists six [C17, C6]:
- "To accommodate construction, TriceraTop Spin, the Fossil Fun Games, Chester & Hester's Dinosaur Treasures, The Boneyard, Trilo-Bites, and Dino-Bite Snacks are closed." [C6]
- It keeps "Tropical Americas will open in 2027" and the February 2, 2026 closing [C5n, C4n].
- February 2, 2026. The date Disney gave for DinoLand U.S.A. to "permanently close" [C4]. This entry did not read a later Disney statement confirming the closure.
- April 30, 2026. Disney Parks Blog published "Discover the Newest Land at Disney's Animal Kingdom: Updates from Tropical Americas" [C7]. It gives the year twice: "When it opens in 2027, the new land will represent" and "In 2027, Pueblo Esperanza will welcome visitors" [C8, C9].
- Both sentences are in an archived copy of the post as first published, captured that evening (its page data:
dateModified 2026-04-30T20:00:13+00:00; sources/verdict_write_loop1/wayback_20260430201507_dpb_tropical_americas_updates.html).
- Disney has edited the post since (page data
dateModified 2026-10-02T15:08:15+00:00), and the version online at this entry's last check still has both [C8, C9; recheck_20261008.out.txt].
- June 2026. An archived copy of the Walt Disney World events calendar from that month read: "Get ready to journey to an 11-acre, immersive land in 2027." [C10]
- August 15, 2026. Disney Parks Blog posted from D23 2026 about the two rides. Its Indiana Jones post said that "Imagineers Michael Hundgen and Chris Beatty revealed a treasure trove of announcements" [C11, C12].
- Neither that post nor the Encanto post gives an opening year [the trace's negative controls].
- The Indiana Jones post's machine timestamp (its
datePublished) is 2026-08-16T03:20:30+00:00, in UTC, which is still the evening of the 15th in Florida [C11].
- Between June and October 2026. The calendar's item for the land changed.
- It now reads: "Prepare for your journey to an 11-acre land." [C13]
- It names the two rides: "Antonio's Fiesta de Encanto and action-packed Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent" [C14].
- It gives no year [the trace's negative control; this entry's re-check,
recheck_20261008.out.txt].
- Now. At this entry's last check, Disney Experiences read: "Set to open in 2027, Tropical Americas is a new land coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom." [C15]
What changed, and why, in the record's own words
- The year has not changed in any Disney statement read.
- August 2024: "will open in 2027" [C1].
- March 2025: "will open in 2027" [C5].
- April 2026, Disney Parks Blog's update on the land: "When it opens in 2027" [C7, C8].
- Now: "Set to open in 2027" [C15].
- One page stopped giving the year.
- The Walt Disney World calendar's item read "in 2027" in June 2026 [C10].
- It now reads "Prepare for your journey to an 11-acre land." [C13]
- No Disney statement read explains the change, and this entry does not suggest a reason.
- Construction: "set to begin" in 2024, "currently ongoing" in 2025. The 2024 post said that work was "set to begin later this year" [C2]. Disney's post of March 6, 2025 said that construction "is currently ongoing" [C3, C5], and every later version of that post read keeps the sentence [C5n].
- The list of what had closed "To accommodate construction" grew as Disney edited the post [C6m, C6s, C6].
- The March 6, 2025 text names three places, whose last day was January 12, 2025 [C3, C6m].
- The version edited in September 2025 names four [C16, C6s] and says: "DinoLand U.S.A. will permanently close on February 2, 2026." [C4]
- The version edited in October 2025, still online, names six [C17, C6].
- Why. No Disney record read gives a reason for any of these changes, and none is claimed here.
What it costs
No source read gives a cost for Tropical Americas. Disney has not published one in any of the posts or pages this entry cites.
What to watch
- An opening season or date from Disney. The record so far gives only the year [C1, C8, C15].
- Whether Disney's other pages keep the year. One has dropped it [C10, C13].
- The permit records. The project's permits and construction filings with Orange County and with the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District. This entry read none of them.
What this entry did not check
- Permit and construction-lien records. No Orange County record and no Central Florida Tourism Oversight District permit was read. News sites have reported such filings, and the trace lists them as leads, not facts.
- Whether DinoLand U.S.A. closed on the date Disney gave [C4]. No later Disney statement was read.
- The exact day the February 2, 2026 closing date was first published. It is in the version edited in September 2025 [C16, C4] and not in the archived copy from July 2025 [the trace's negative controls]. No copy from between those two was read.
- What Disney changed in its October 2026 edit of the April 30, 2026 update. The two "2027" sentences are in both the as-published copy and today's version; the rest of the post was not compared.
- The D23 2026 presentations themselves. Only Disney Parks Blog's posts about them were read [C11, C12].
- Disney's own explanation for the calendar change [C10, C13]. None was found, and none was asked for.
